The Kino Kabaret is an event for Filmmakers where films are written, shot, cut, and screened within a short period of time. The KINO movement was founded in 1999 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada by Christian Laurence. It has since spread worldwide and is now composed of over 60 physical cells. Founded in a spirit of collaboration and motivation, the movement stimulates the production of short-films by small crews with little to no budget.
The films are made in “guerilla style”. No budget. Only the most necessary equipment. But lots of motivation and passion. Participants have one long week to compose their cast and crew (at the production meeting) and make their film from scratch.
The call is open to participants of all backgrounds, abilities, skills and experience. Young, old, professional, amateur, student or simple film enthusiasts can apply.
Dokufest became part of the Kino Kabaret in 2012, when the first Kino Kabaret took part during the 11th Edition of the festival. The project involved around 30 participants with different professional backgrounds and resulted in the production of 14 short films that were screened at Kino Kalaja.
