RIOTS, REVOLUTIONS AND REMINISCENCES: SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARAB WORLD

RIOTS, REVOLUTIONS AND REMINISCENCES: SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARAB WORLD

This year, DokuFest presents a special strand bringing a selection of Arab documentaries and short films to Kosovo. The programme called Riots, Revolutions and Reminiscences: Spotlight on the Arab World is curated by Programmer of Izmir Short Film Festival and former Programmer of Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Özge Calafato, and will include Lebanese Rocket Society by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (Lebanon); A World Not Ours by Mahdi Fleifel (Lebanon, UK); Fidai  by Damien Ounouri (Algeria); Granny's Flags by Naziha Arebi (Libya); Fix ME by Raed Andoni (Palestine); Nation Estate by Larissa Sansour (Palestine); In Search of Oil and Sand by Wael Omar (Egypt); Pipe Dreams by Ali Cherri (Lebanon); As If We Were Catching A Cobra by Hala Alabdalla (Syria).

“From the story of a group of Lebanese scientists who formed a rocket society in the 1960s to a film shot by members of the Egyptian royal family, which turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy about their own downfall in 1952, Riots, Revolutions and Reminiscences presents a collection of works by outstanding Arab filmmakers from different generations who offer new ways of imagining a world that urges us to rethink the images and concepts that are often times associated with the Arab World.” said Özge Calafato.

The full slate of films will be announced on July 24th on our website.
